How are liquor stores faring now that Coloradans can pick up wine with their milk and eggs?

“On a recent Friday evening at Mondo Vino, a liquor store in Denver’s West Highlands neighborhood, there was a wine tasting going on in the back of the store. It’s the reason Julia Ward is there, she lives nearby. “It is my local watering hole, I would say in a way,” Ward said while sipping on a glass of Italian red. “I try to come either Friday or Saturday, try some new wine, try not to walk out with too many bottles.”

Walmart, Costco and others rethink self-checkout [and they don’t sell alcohol]

“The backlash against self-checkout is growing, and stores are starting to dial back on the technology after it exploded over the past few years. Booths, a British supermarket chain, said it’s removing self-checkout stations in all but two of its 28 stores. In the United States, Walmart, Costco, Wegmans and other chains have also revised their self-checkout strategies. “Our customers have told us this over time — that the self-scan machines that we’ve got in our stores … can be slow, they can be unreliable, and they’re obviously impersonal,”

Frustrated NH brewers push back after statewide crackdown on beer labeling

“Over the past two weeks, the New Hampshire Liquor Commission’s (NHLC) enforcement division has rejected proposed labels for craft beers from at least a half-dozen breweries around the state saying they likely would induce minors to drink. That rejected label featured the words “Balloon Music” in navy blue, with a musical staff and scale with notes in orange, yellow and pink, all on a light blue background with a sprinkling of colors. Another label under review is a caricature of his dog, Blue.”
